School Play

Sophia had a school play today. They did a heavily modified rendition of Three Billy Goats Gruff. They had to expand the scope of the play somewhat so that all the 1st grade students had some role. Thus there were three (3) choruses (choroi), one of kids in white tee shirts, sunglasses, and jeans, one of kids in white tee shirts, denim jackets, and jeans, and a third of butterflies. There was also a swarm of bees. There was also a herd of bunnies. A few years ago Max was a bee. This year Sophie was a bunny. She did a dance number where they danced the bunny-hop in tap shoes. They did quite well. My favorite parts was when the narrator said "They crossed the bridge and then the trolls came out of hiding... [wait a little bit] ...AND THEN THE TROLLS CAME OUT OF HIDING!"

I am afraid that we didn't bring the digital camera. We did use the chemical camera a little, so a few images might surface.

American Novelty

Heley and I went to see 'American Novelty' last night. It was really great, and there was a good turnout. Pops Bayless made a bunch of slides that were used to narrate a (pseudo-)history of previously unknown novelty jazz musicians that were used to frame the songs that they played. The narrative was really funny, the actor that presented it was very reminiscent of Mark Twain. The narrative did a good job at setting the tone and mood for the Shorty Long tunes that they played. We liked it.
